Once sugar was blamed as the sole type 2 diabetes-causing culprit, we now know that saturated fat wreaks havoc on metabolic systems and contributes to insulin resistance.
Too much fat in the body is harmful right down to our cells. But saturated fat, in particular, has a toxic effect on cells, organs, and other bodily systems.
Animal products and vegetable oils have the highest amount of saturated fats per serving. And many processed baked goods, fried foods, and oily snacks also contain trans fats, which have been shown to be even more harmful than saturated fat alone. Take action to reduce or eliminate these foods from your diet this week.
Foods containing refined flours and added sugar cause a spike in blood sugar that can contribute to insulin resistance over time. And these foods can also cause weight gain, which further increases the risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes from excess fat. Reduce or eliminate processed foods, snacks, and sodas with refined flours or sugar this week.
